Today waterborne transport emissions represent about 13% of the overall European greenhouse gas emissions from the transport sector, with the tendency to increase under a business as usual scenario. Therefore, this industry needs to undergo a rapid energy transition over the current decade to reach Paris Agreement and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) goals.
Current Direct proposes solutions towards the electrification of the European waterborne transport sector, by developing and demonstrating an innovative, interchangeable waterborne transport battery system and an Energy as a Service (EaaS) Platform in an operational environment.
